Dr. Lenka Scheinherrová

Fulbright Fellow – Scientist

Dr. Lenka Scheinherrová is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials Engineering and Chemistry at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague and a current Fulbright-Masaryk Scholar. Her research focuses on sustainable cement-based materials, particularly improving the early hydration and strength of low-carbon systems such as Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). At UC Berkeley, she will collaborate with Prof. Franco Zunino in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Oct 2025 – Mar 2026) to explore innovative additives and particle size optimization strategies to advance low-carbon cement technologies.

Jihoon Lee

PhD student – Seoul National University, Republic of Korea

Jihoon Lee is a PhD candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seoul National University, where he is expected to receive his degree in February 2026. He also earned his M.S. from the same institution. From March to September 2025, he is conducting research as a Visiting Student Researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, supported by the Human Resource Development Program of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT). He received his B.S. degree from Seoul National University, where he was honored by the College of Engineering Alumni Association. During his doctoral studies, he has investigated the reactions of limestone-containing binders with alkanolamine grinding agents to develop low-carbon binders and high-performance construction materials.

Junil Pae

PhD student – Seoul National University, Republic of Korea

Junil Pae is a PhD candidate at Seoul National University and a Visiting Student Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. His research profile is characterized by a dual focus on developing sustainable construction materials and applying advanced computational analysis to understand their behavior. His doctoral work pioneers the development of next-generation, low-carbon binders that permanently sequester carbon dioxide through mineral carbonation. This research involves activating synthetic minerals like wollastonite and exploring innovative processes such as in-situ carbon dioxide mixing.
